Watch Germany’s ‘Alliance Against Iran’

On April 14, Iran directly attacked Israel with hundreds of drones. Just after, Germany’s Welt newspaper wrote that as pressure on Israel increases, “it will also become clear whether any of Germany’s political capital remains in the Arab world that can help forge an alliance against Iran and stabilize the region.”

For longtime Trumpet readers, that is an extraordinary statement. Germany is working to forge an alliance of Arab nations against Iran. This is a development we have been forecasting for years—based on a mysterious biblical prophecy.

The prophecy is in Psalm 83. It describes an alliance of nations that is developing right now. In fact, this German-led “alliance against Iran” is the very precursor to the Psalm 83 alliance!

Though they don’t realize it, geopolitical commentators are talking about this prophetic alliance!

But as we will see, confronting Iran is only a part of the alliance’s goal.

‘Germany’s Political Capital’

Just how strong is “Germany’s political capital” in the Middle East right now? This most important nation in Europe has close relations with Israel, Turkey and many countries in the Arab world. These relations that Germany has forged in recent decades are much more calculated than people realize.

Over the years, the German military has deployed small handfuls of up to a few thousand troops in and around the Middle East. It is contributing or has contributed to military missions in Afghanistan, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Mali, Niger, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Turkey and Western Sahara. It has supported various military missions in the Mediterranean and an ongoing operation against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq with Jordan serving as a base.

Germany has also sold billions of dollars in weapons to nations like Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and the list goes on. Additionally, it upholds strong diplomatic ties with these and other countries in the region.

Recently, Germany stationed troops in Cyprus for a possible intervention in the Middle East conflict. It has contributed to a European mission in the Red Sea that acts independently from an American mission in the region. It is delivering weapons to Israel—and at the same time is flying aid into Gaza. Germany has worked hard to present itself as an ally of Israel in the region while maintaining good relations with Arab neighbors. This strategy is paying off.

Following Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack on Israel, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Germany’s word in the Middle East is important “because Israel knows that Germany stands by it, but,” he added, “our country also has good connections to the neighboring Arab countries.”

With the support of this ad hoc Middle East power bloc, Germany is opposing Iranian hegemony—without Iran even knowing it.

Clashing Interests

“Northern Africa is turning into a battleground with enormously important prophetic implications,” I wrote in our April 2013 Trumpet issue. “Iran has designs on being the strongest power throughout the region and is extending its reach throughout North Africa. But Iran isn’t the only one interested in Africa. Germany is making strong inroads as well. Both of these powers are racing to get as much control of North Africa as they can. They will inevitably clash with each other.”

Two years later, in 2015, Lt. Col. André Wüstner, chairman of the German Federal Armed Forces Association, said that an Islamic “ring of fire” extends “from Afghanistan via Yemen, Syria and Iraq to Africa.”

Germany is acutely aware of this battleground. It is working meticulously to safeguard its interests there. Africa is a resource-rich continent, and if Germany wants to be independent of Russian oil and gas, it needs to tap into it more. But Iran is growing less and less predictable, and its aggression is building. It is proving increasingly difficult to contain. This threatens not only Israel’s existence but also Germany’s objectives.

Iranian proxies in the Middle East and Africa not only jeopardize Germany’s plans in the region, they are also causing large flows of refugees, and even terrorism, into Europe. Most recently, Germany has suffered economically because of Iran blocking the Red Sea. This hurts European-Asian trade as goods have had to be rerouted around Africa, causing transportation costs to skyrocket.

This crisis has given Germany a major reason to intervene in the Red Sea. But it refused to join the international United States-led mission. Instead it spearheaded an independent European Union naval mission. This is what we are seeing more and more: Germany pursuing its own strategic operations—and these revolving around confronting Iran!

As a result, any escalation in the Red Sea is bringing Germany into direct confrontation with Iran.

About this European mission, Welt noted, “But then the German armed forces would also be caught in the crossfire. The German Navy is already securing commercial shipping as part of an EU mission in the sea area that could soon become a hot battlefield.”

Yes, the Red Sea is quickly becoming a hot battlefield. It is ready to explode! Germany recognizes this.

In Gaza, Iran’s proxy Hamas is being beaten badly, but in the Red Sea, Houthi terrorists—also sponsored by Iran—are very active. The Jewish state of Israel is also facing major trouble on its north from Hezbollah in Lebanon. Hezbollah is reported to have 140,000 powerful missiles that can easily reach Israel. Iran could also soon get much more personally involved. This is indeed a hot battlefield!

And Germany has convinced several European nations to enter this battlefield.

The French defense minister, in a joint interview with his German counterpart conducted by faz, said: “An extraordinary European military mission is taking place [in the Red Sea], safeguarding our common commercial interests by using our frigates to protect maritime traffic. In some respects, more is being done today than a European army could ever achieve by establishing tailor-made missions.”

Such joint European military missions are no doubt led by Germany to further its own ambitions. Yet France is enthusiastic. It thinks this is “extraordinary.” It seems to have no clue about Germany’s true aims. (I explain this in my cover story of our latest Trumpet issue, “France’s Deadly Ignorance About Germany.”)

Germany wants to get control of the Middle East! Biblical prophecy shows that it is going to succeed. And Psalm 83 provides a lot of detail about how.

Strategic Planning

In some regions, Germany has actively pushed for military interventions; in others, it has abstained—to the bafflement of allies. Back in 2011, the United States, Britain and France wanted military intervention in Libya. Germany refused to participate. This caused international outrage; some believed it even cost Germany its chance for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

Let’s understand: This wasn’t about military reluctance but about strategic planning.

Remember, Germany showed no such reluctance when it came to the Balkans in March 1999. At that time, Germany participated in an aerial bombing campaign launched by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization against Yugoslavia. This was Germany’s first military action since World War ii. It was a brutal intervention, and Germany was the one orchestrating the strikes behind the scenes. (I explain this in my booklet Germany’s Conquest of the Balkans.)

The Balkans are a crucial access point to the Mediterranean Sea that connects Europe to the Middle East and Northern Africa. Germany tried unsuccessfully to conquer this area in two world wars. Today, it virtually controls it.

So Germany has tasted success in such interventions. But whereas it correctly calculated that it was in a position to make inroads into the Balkans at the time, it also recognized that, regarding Libya, Iran would have the upper hand in the resulting turmoil.

Unbeknown to its Western allies, Germany is pursuing its own independent strategy in the Middle East. It staunchly opposes some of the missions of its supposedly closest allies, while it is adamant about pursuing its own. Though there is some overlap with what the U.S. and other European countries want, there are also many seemingly perplexing differences. Back in 2012, for example, Germany was far more interested in Syria than in Libya. That fit its larger ambitions for the region.

No one seems to understand what Germany is doing in the Middle East.

This nation that started the most brutal wars in history has its own agenda. We need to understand what this agenda is, because it will impact our world on a much greater magnitude than even World War ii did.

When Two Alliances Clash

Daniel 11:40 speaks of a “king of the south.” As my booklet on this subject explains, this refers to radical Islam led by Iran.

But Psalm 83 shows some major nations that will not ally themselves with Iran but join an opposing alliance led by Germany.

Daniel 11:42-43 indicate that Egypt, Libya and Ethiopia will ally with Iran—and then will be conquered by a German-led Europe. These nations are missing from the Psalm 83 alliance.

Psalm 83:5-8 list 10 nations that are part of this different alliance: “For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes; Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.”

Lange’s Commentary states about this mysterious alliance: “History transmits no record of the national crisis when the nations enumerated [in this psalm] formed a league ….” Commentaries agree: There never has been such an alliance in history. That is because this is a prophecy for this end time!

What would be the point of listing these ancient nations—which never allied in the past—except that it has meaning for us today? It is to be fulfilled only in this end time and no other time.

We must understand who these nations are. Here are the modern names of these nations, as taught at Ambassador College under Herbert W. Armstrong:

  • Edom and Amalek are modern Turkey.
  • The Ishmaelites are Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states like the U.A.E. and Bahrain.
  • Moab and Ammon both refer to Jordan.
  • The Hagarenes anciently dwelled in the land known as Syria today.
  • The Philistines are the modern Palestinian Arabs of Gaza and even those in the West Bank.
  • Gebal and Tyre are Lebanon.
  • Assur, at one time the capital of Assyria, refers here to modern-day Germany.

We cannot be extremely precise about the identity of these peoples, but this gives a good general idea.

Look at how Germany is actively cultivating these relationships today.

An Alliance in the Making

Germany’s history with Turkey goes back centuries. German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited Turkey from April 22 to 24 and called President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan a “valuable friend.” While Turkey has shown great resentment toward the U.S. and Western values, it is a valuable friend to Germany. It receives a large share of Germany’s weapon exports. How do you explain that?

The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are Germany’s most important trading partners in the Arab world. Germany is Jordan’s most important European trading partner. There is a little-known history of Nazi officials building up Syria’s intelligence services. The Palestinian Arabs are currently receiving large support from Germany, both materially and politically, to help create their own state. Germany is also the third-largest donor to Lebanon after the U.S. and the EU (though Germany isn’t happy with the current government and advocates for “fundamental reforms”).

Germany is working today through diplomatic relations, weapons exports, financial donations and even troop deployment to create a bulwark against Iranian hegemony.

But Daniel 11:40 is clear that Germany is about to strike militarily against Iran: “And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.”

The EU’s Red Sea mission, its military deployments, its diplomatic and reconnaissance missions, its weapons exports to Iranian enemies—all these activities are part of meticulous preparations for this attack!

What will trigger this whirlwind attack?

Here is what I wrote in my book The Eternal Has Chosen Jerusalem (free upon request):

The push by the king of the south will probably be directly related to Jerusalem. It could well be the Arabs, incited by Iran, conquering half the city! The Palestinians could—and, I believe, will—conquer the Temple Mount and refuse access to anybody else. This would rapidly unite Europe and the Israeli Jews against them. This “push” could also involve cutting off oil—of which Europe receives more than a third of its supply from the Middle East—to punish the king of the north over a dispute about this city.

I wrote this long before recent events in the Middle East, but look how they tie in. On October 7, Iran-backed terrorists had the stated goal to conquer Jerusalem—a city holy to Jews, Arabs and Christians. After Germany and other Western nations showed solidarity with Israel, Iran tried to punish them by using its proxies to attack merchant ships in the Red Sea. Our Western world continues to support a so-called two-state solution. But the more land that Iran-backed terrorists get, the closer we are to their forcibly taking Jerusalem!

Germany sees that this conflict could explode any time! It is actively preparing for it. It is positioning itself for this “whirlwind” attack!

These events are about to trigger a whole slew of end-time prophecies.

As Germany is preparing for an attack on Iran, it is also laying the groundwork for this Psalm 83 alliance with Arab states.

Note: The primary goal of the Psalm 83 alliance is not to confront Iran. The goal is to blot out Israel! This is clear from the very first verses of the psalm. I encourage you to read Chapter 4 “Another, More Mysterious Alliance” from my booklet The King of the South to understand the true intent of this alliance, which is forming before our eyes!
