U.S. House Votes to Drastically Expand Government Surveillance

The United States Congress is poised to enact the biggest expansion of government surveillance since President George W. Bush signed the Patriot Act.

On April 12, the House of Representatives voted to reauthorize Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (fisa), which authorizes warrantless spying on foreigners and on Americans talking with, e-mailing or texting foreigners.

Civil liberties campaigners wanted Congress to amend Section 702 to require agencies to get warrants before spying on Americans’ communications. But after House Intelligence Committee chair Mike Turner warned that such an amendment would give al Qaeda and the Chinese Communist Party “full constitutional protections to recruit in the United States,” the House included a different amendment.

Carte blanche: Representative Turner and Rep. Jim Himes added an amendment to Section 702 extending the obligation that Big Tech has to help the government spy on people to any service provider with “access to equipment that is being or may be used to transmit or store wire or electronic communications.”

So if the Senate approves this House bill, anyone from commercial landlords to the Geek Squad could be roped into aiding U.S. intelligence.

In an April 16 post to X, whistleblower Edward Snowden said: “The nsa [National Security Agency] is just days from taking over the Internet, and it’s not on the front page of any newspaper—because no one has noticed.”

Totalitarian state: In 2013, Snowden provided proof of the spying program Prism in which nine major tech companies (Apple, aol, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, PalTalk, Skype, Yahoo and YouTube) provided Barack Obama’s nsa and Federal Bureau of Investigation with their users’ e-mail messages, audio and video recordings, photographs, documents and location data.

Another whistleblower, William Binney, told James Bamford in 2012 that the nsa was building a turnkey totalitarian state. Although the U.S. is not totalitarian like Communist nations, it has installed all the parts necessary to create a dictatorship. It just needs the right people to turn the key.

Bitter affliction: Herbert W. Armstrong explained in The United States and Britain in Prophecy that modern-day Americans and Britons were descended from the ancient Israelites. This truth means that the Bible’s end-time prophecies concerning Israel are directed at the U.S. and Britain.

One of these prophecies foretells a time when God will use a man to save America from being destroyed (2 Kings 14:26-27). The unconstitutional surveillance employed by Obama and his acolytes would blot out America as a constitutional republic. Only God’s intervention can save us.
